Art History by Jonatas Chimen

This article from "COLECTA" magazine explores the shift in art history toward visual culture and the impact of the 2020 pandemic on social engagement and artistic expression. The prolonged social isolation led to a deeper reflection on societal priorities and the rise of "Digi-Romanticism," a framework for the Millennial condition characterized by information overload and hyperconnectivity. This context gives rise to Metamodernism, a rejection of Postmodernism's deconstruction and nihilism, as articulated by Luke Turner. The Jada Art Movement, founded by artists and academics including Jonatas Chimen and Dana Blickensderfer, seeks to challenge the established art world and formalize a sincere and pragmatic artistic discourse. The movement aims to transform the perception of art in society by re-engaging with the wondrous and folkloric, as well as the scientific and observational, and to encourage artists to explore the world both around and within themselves. The images accompanying the text showcase artworks by Jonatas Chimen and Dana Blickensderfer, among others reflecting themes of immigration, family separation, exile, and the human condition.
